OLD SCHOOL GLAMOUR WITH AN IRREVERENT CHARM
Sometimes, backwards is the way forwards. We’ve been revolutionising golf for over fifty years now; first with our bold intarsia knits in bright colour palettes that swept the sport, and now with our high-tech pieces that make playing in style easier than ever – we love the beautiful game just as much as ever.
However, some would say it’s not as beautiful as it used to be; we’re out to prove them wrong: we think it’s time to revisit a more refined, classic sportswear looks but, in true Lyle and Scott style, we’re taking the old school glamour of golf’s golden age and treating it with an irreverent, contemporary charm.
This is Lyle and Scott x Oi Polloi.
Don’t get us wrong, we love the style and glamour of what golf was; its historical association with country clubs and the Hollywood elite has been – and always will be – a major source of inspiration for us, but now we’re adding counter cultural references into the mix.
Drawing on the blazing floodlights of the urban driving range, as well as anti-establishment style icons from across the ages that have worn the cardigan with a lovable impudence (think David Hockney, Kurt Cobain, and Tyler the Creator), we’re bringing a loose-fit aesthetic to this iconic garment that adds a hint of nineties grunge to the well-to-do exclusivity of golf; we’re making the inaccessible accessible.
We’re not just bringing that approach to the way the products look, but to how they’re made. As well as bringing the golf cardigan screaming into the 21st century, we’re using the power of modern manufacturing to make these classic vintage products in the most ecologically conscious way we can, helping them to age into sublime analogue artefacts for generations to come.
Plus, we’re using Mohair, a premium brushed fabric made from Angora goat’s wool that’s gentle on the most sensitive of skin; this is premium golf style for everyone, this is Mohair for the people.
