Water resistant and waterproof are not the same. A water resistant jacket handles showers, drizzle and a walk from the car.
What it covers
Full waterproofing involves taped seams and a membrane, which adds weight and reduces breathability. Water resistance keeps a jacket light enough to wear daily and packable enough to carry when the forecast is uncertain.
Features, layering and care
