Lengths and types

Crew socks come up the calf, sit under trousers without a gap and protect against rubbing in a boot. Ankle socks sit below the shoe line and suit shorts and warmer weather. Sport socks add cushioning through the sole and structure through the arch.

Colour and care

Colour follows the trouser rather than the shoe. Black, navy and grey cover most wardrobes, with patterned and tipped pairs carrying Golden Eagle detailing. Wash cool and line dry, since high heat destroys the cuff elastic. Most people buy in multipacks. See underwear.
