Stripes add pattern while staying easy to pair with plain trousers.
Stripe width
A fine stripe, particularly blue or navy on white, reads almost as a plain shirt from a distance and works in a smart setting. Wider stripes carry more weight and suit a relaxed context. Bengal and candy stripes sit between the two.
Pairing, fit and care
Striped shirts work best with everything else kept plain, and layer well under a crew neck jumper with the collar out. The shoulder seam should sit on the shoulder and the cuff at the wrist bone. Wash cool, and wash stronger colours separately at first. See oxford and white shirts.
